Scientology and the Miracle of Birth

With Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcoming their baby daughter Suri into world, the concept of Scientology in the birthing process has been heavily examined.
It has been alleged that Tom, a devout Scientologist, has insisted that Katie follow some strict rules for the birth of their child.
Scientology is alleged to influence birth through:

  • Silence – means no music or talking during the birth, but more importantly no screaming during labour

  • No medical tests to occur in the first 7 days

  • The baby shouldn’t be spoken to in the first 7 days

Here at heinzforbaby we would love to hear what you think of the involvement of Scientology in the birthing process.

I also believe they are not permitted to use pain medication during the birth process either. I could not image being unable to talk or scream during labour, and even worse would be being told I couldn't speak to my baby when they are born. You wait 9mths to have this little bundle of joy and then you are not allowed to enjoy the first moments. It leads me to think that scientology and its rules must have been established by a man!!!

Not talking to your new born baby in the first seven days how ridiculous...your baby has been listening to your voice for 9 months how can you not talk to your beautiful little one.

I am Sure to have heard that talking to your baby is the most important thing to do, when the baby is born, the baby knows your voice and by talking to your baby is making a stronger bond between mother and baby. I sang to my son 2 minutes after he was born, the same song I sang while I was expecting, he seemed to calm down and just enjoying listening to my voice, knowing this is my mother. Talking and screaming during birth, I have to say, that my midwife said that screaming dosn't help anything, it actually uses the strengh you should use to push. I didn't feel like screaming, just breathing and concentrating on that, so I can se no problem with that, but if anybody feel like screaming, I think that is just fine.. This is My thoughts Brithoz

The baby can hear the mothers echo sound of her voice in the womb. Natural instinct is for the mother to be able to talk to their child after the birth. So why shouldnt a mother be able to bond with her child by talking. Sorry but i think its very silly!!!! What has this world come to!!! No screaming, thats got to be hard espiecally when your in pain. thats human nature that we respond to how we feel. Easy for Tom Cruise to say you should/must follow these simple things but its not so simple being in a position to give birth. Far enough im not knocking the fact he follows those beliefs but dont make other people follow it for the sake of pleasing him if that was the case... its her body and i believe kate should have dealt with it the way she felt was best for her whether she screamed or cried her lungs out. Giving birth is not always easy thats for sure!!! Personally i would love to see Tom Cruise have a baby and follow those religous beliefs and see how he handles it... (hehehe not that it will ever happen!!!!)

I think it's ridiculous. To each his own when it comes to religious beliefs but birth is birth and the needs of a newborn (or of the mother in labour) should not be ignored. A cozy and calm environment is ideal but to expect a mother to keep quiet whilst giving birth is ludicrous. Nature should be left to run its course and women allowed to go with the flow and listen to their bodies. If that means to scream whilst pushing, so be it. And bub doesn't need silence once out of the womb. Bub needs reassurance and comfort. Mum's voice, touch and breast are best to convey all that.
