Clothing & Dressing
It’s amazing how hard it can be to dress a real-life wriggly baby. They never stay still – plus they seem so delicate, you feel you have to be super-careful. So here’s how to get your baby dressed the easy way:
- Choose clothes that are soft and easy to put on. Avoid buttons, and check for wide arm and neck holes.
- Get comfortable, with your baby on a flat surface such as a bed.
- If you’re putting on a jumpsuit, lay it out in a ‘lying down’ position and lie your baby on top of it. Then gently move their feet into the feet of the jumpsuit, ease their arms one by one into the armholes, and finally do up the front.
- If you’re putting on a top, start by holding the garment by the neck and gathering the material so you can get the whole thing over your little one’s head in one move.
- Once their head is through, reach into the sleeve and gently pull their arms through (rather than pushing them into) the sleeve, while keeping their head supported. Make sure you watch out for the fingers as they sometimes get caught in the sleeves.
- Prop your baby up as you pull the garment down their body. Keep talking to them all the time to reassure them.
- Lie your baby down, face-up, and fasten poppers down the nappy area.
Quick Tips
- Be prepared. Get everything within easy reach before you begin
- Stretch the clothes, not the baby
- Always dress your baby on a sturdy, flat surface, such as a carpeted floor or bed.
- Don’t overdress. Babies can become overheated if they wear too many clothes
- Move zips away from your baby’s skin as you do them up – you don’t want them to catch
- Have some fun. Chat and sing to your baby…this is all part of the bonding process
